Following in depth research with local businesses TransFIRe in partnership with North Lincolnshire Council invite you to attend a series of curated events focusing on sustainability.
In response to the increasing pressure to report on your sustainability credentials, how can sustainability metrics help evidence the positive benefits of your activities?
TransFIRe is seeking to help high energy using companies to understand and use the emerging reporting requirements to benefit both their competitiveness as well as their sustainability reporting and performance.
We particularly welcome SMEs to these events in addition to larger companies.
This first event brings you a webinar to brief you on the emerging reporting requirements, provide examples of how metrics have been used in other businesses to best effect and interactively share local good practice.
You will also get insight to the latest thinking of how working with wider stakeholders boosts long term performance.
Following this event we will be holding an in-person workshop to get into the detail of sustainability metrics and how they can aid your journey to net zero. (19th July, details to follow)
Autumn 2023 will bring in-company support for scoping and defining your metrics to support the sustainability and competitiveness objectives of your business.
Each event is optional, there is no obligation to commit to all events. There is no charge for any stage as this support is funded by the government’s UKRI research and innovation body.

Dr. Peter Ball
Introduction, the TransFIRe project and how it is contributing to more sustainable businesses in energy intensive sectors.
Peter Ball is Professor of Operations Management in the School of Business and Society at the University of York. His research focuses on how operations practices underpin performance. Current research projects have system level improvements at their heart. Application areas span operations, manufacturing and supply chain management. Through a management lens, he seeks to understand how processes in business behave and how they can be improved. His work includes sustainability, circular economy, eco-efficient manufacturing and more generally addressing productivity. Beyond the TFI TransFIRe project, his recent work includes FixOurFood food systems transformation with emphasis on new business models and industry peer-to-peer learning for sustainability. He has served as a judge on the IET’s and Make UK’s innovation awards, particularly their innovation, education and sustainability categories.

Juan Ramon Candia, MSc, PGDip, PhD (s)
The jungle of sustainability standards and emerging reporting requirements
Juan Ramón Candia (JR) has 25+ years of experience as innovation and sustainability expert, manager of high-performance teams, applied researcher, environmental consultant, entrepreneur, mentor of start-ups, board member, government official, UN consultant. He has worked on various strategic sustainability challenges for a dozen of sectors/industries (e.g. mining, tourism, banking, retail, chemical, fishing, water utilities, NGOs, government, among others) on issues of climate change, water management, biodiversity conservation, remediation on contaminated sites, cleaner production, performance indicators, among others. JR is currently doing his PhD research on Digital Climate Solutions and innovative sustainable business models at the School for Business & Society from the University of York, UK.

Dr Gavin Milligan (PhD, C.Chem, MRSC, FIFST, FRSA), Director, Green Knight Sustainability Consulting Ltd
Drivers and good practice in communicating sustainability performance – case studies from industry
Dr Gavin Milligan has over 30 years’ industrial experience in positions up to Board level, in businesses of various sizes, from SMEs to large multinationals and has worked in diverse roles including operations, supply chain, procurement and sales. He now owns and runs Green Knight Sustainability Consulting Ltd, developing and delivering sustainability strategies for a wide range of organisations. Current and former clients include businesses in aerospace, chemicals, construction, engineering, food, packaging and medical devices, together with trade bodies, public and third-sector organisations and academic research bodies. A qualified scientist, Gavin is also active within academia lecturing on supply chains and Lifecycle Assessments and co-authoring research papers.
