1. Combining the information and models from WS1.1 with the basic processes for production, investigate new and novel materials chemistries and process technologies and establish their viability as new routes for production
  2. Waste streams and by-product flows will be mapped, identifying those that could be used as raw materials for other sectors in the industrial landscape with little or no further processing (i.e. industrial symbiosis).
  3. Processes through which value could be added to waste-streams and by products (including modifications to parent processes) will be investigated, both to develop new products and reduce environmental impact.
  4. Hierarchical business models will be developed to assess the economic viability and energy, water and CO2 footprint of further processing and investment in upcycling.
  5. The models, mapping and technologies will be disseminated and practices deployed to gain impact and improve competitiveness.
